Conservative Member of Parliament Jim Flaherty, Canada’s longest serving Finance Minister, has died today.
Flaherty saw Canada through the economic crisis of 2008-9, bringing forward budget after budget that resulted in over one million jobs being created in Canada since. His actions as Finance Minister resulted in Canada having the strongest economy in the G7, and being the envy of the world with consistently low taxes.. Shifting Canada away from a culture of punishing wealth, and towards an environment where growth is encouraged.
He died very suddenly from a rare skin condition he was committed to fighting, and never let stop him even for a single moment. Flaherty is survived by his wife and three children.
We will miss you so, so much, Jim. Thank you for your service.
